Marilyn Farnsworth Wendling
Still in her studio is the "paint by number" Marilyn painted when just 4 years old. Decades were to go by before she would pick up another paint brush. Her working career was that of an executive secretary until a thoughtful birthday gift from her husband, of private painting instruction, would change her life and profession forever. In the many years since, pursuing this passion with the zest, enthusiasm and drive for which she is known Marilyn has established a full-time career as a fine artist.
Growing up in New Jersey and spending vacations on the Massachusetts coast in the summer home built by her great grandfather, Marilyn's love for New England was born. Her time is now spent between two homes ~ one in New Hampshire the other in Tennessee ~ each area providing a palette of endless beauty and inspiration.
Marilyn shares her life with devoted husband, Mark and their two dogs.
Success
~ Ralph Waldo Emerson ~
To laugh often and much;
to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children;
to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends;
to appreciate beauty;
to find the best in others;
to leave the world a bit better,
whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition;
to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived;
that is to have succeeded.
Marilyn can be found painting in her studio or en plein air (outside) using a palette of only red, yellow, blue and white. Alla Prima (painting in one session) is her style preference.
Marilyn's zest for life and exuberance are evident in her Alla Prima works in oil. Her command of light and color harmony takes place using a very limited palette. She has studied with Scott Christiansen, Ken Backhaus and Ken Auster, to name a few. Marilyn's passion is translated into her sought after works which she exhibits in local and regional shows, juried competitions and in fine art galleries in the Southeast and New England.
In 2009 Marilyn had the distinguished honor of having one of her paintings placed into the "Permanent Collection" of the Tennessee State Museum and on display in the Tennessee Governor's Residence.
Marilyn has served on the Board of Directors for the Chestnut Group ~ Plein Air painters for the land ~ Tennessee; an organization of artists who promote the preservation of land through art.
